Save English Cherries

Since its inception The Mortimer Country Food Fair has championed English Cherries and each year we have offered delicious recipes for cooking our wonderful, subtle English varieties. 2011 Pitch Farm who have provided cherries to the fair each year have had a difficult year, with lack of rain and high winds leading to many cherries dropping early. For 2011 it was touch and go as to whether we would have any cherries available as many of the varieties were late in ripening, whilst others had rippened too early. In the end the redoubtable Tim Block came through for us, and fair goers were able to enjoy the best cherries in Britain.

Cherry growing in Britain is hard, and our growers are always under threat from cheaper ( and often inferior ) foreign competitors. It is therefore more important than ever to support them, so join the Food Lovers Britain campaign CherryAid by going onto their website.
